Start with the access event you need to prevent
A password-vault app can expose information in more than one place: the app-opening screen, notifications, Android's recent-app view, exported files, account sessions and recovery channels. Name the exact exposure before choosing a control.
Compare screen locks and applicable Android Private Space/app settings without universal claims. Test with harmless sample records rather than real credentials. Record the Android version, device manufacturer and whether the phone is managed by an employer or school.
Check device, app and account controls separately
Screen lock, user profiles and Private Space determine what the operating system separates.
An app-entry lock can add friction after the phone is unlocked, but its behavior depends on permissions and background restrictions.
The vault provider controls remote sessions, synchronization, recovery and server-side data.
Lock-screen notifications and recent-app previews may reveal information without opening the vault.
Do not treat one lock as complete protection
Private Space is available only on supported Android configurations. When it is locked, its apps stop and their notifications are hidden; that can be useful for privacy but unsuitable for apps that must work continuously. Manufacturer app-lock features and third-party app locks can behave differently after restarts, updates or battery optimization.
Run a reversible access test
- Use a harmless test record and close the vault app.
- Lock and unlock the phone, then inspect notifications and recent apps.
- Restart the device and test the protected app before opening the locking utility.
- Review active account sessions and recovery options inside the vault provider.
- Document what remains visible and select the narrowest control that solves that exposure.
Check the current documentation
Menu names and availability can vary by Android version, manufacturer and device policy.
This is independent educational guidance. Vendor pages document stated product behavior; Android documentation establishes platform behavior. Neither guarantees compatibility on every phone.
